Kinja'd!!!

I've been asked to write one by an old friend and previous employer. Definitely said yes, he's a good guy. But I've never done this before. Anyone have any suggestions? Have a picture of some electric things from an electric car.

Gainful employment. He's moving to a new city where he doesn't know anyone and intends to get a job as a service writer at a high end car dealer. He's always been a business owner so being an employee will be new. However, his business (successful, but sold) ventures were usually automotive shops so the position won't really be that new to him. He just doesn't want the headaches and effort that go along with owning a business anymore.

It depends on what he is paying you, more dollars=better letter.

(I have no clue, on this or much else)

Meh, I've taken enough money out of his pockets over the years (he's always paid me well/fairly to help him with crazy projects), I probably owe him this.

In that case I'd focus on things like his people skills, fairness, and ability to explain (or solve) complicated problems easily and instill confidence & trust in customers. It wouldn't hurt to touch on how he treats employees (techs), or his success at running his own shop. If it's to be given to a dealer of cars he knows, throw in some endorsement of his brand knowledge. At least, that's what I'd look for to hire someone for my job as a shop manager. Hell, if he wants to move here he can have my job.

If you want to give me an idea of what metro he is moving to, I have alot of contacts in all kinds of dealers. If you want to hook up off oppo, facebook or email, I can throw weight behind him too. It isn't hard to write one, but these days it is a little bizarre to go into the job hunt with signed sealed and delivered letters of reference. I have never seen it once since college in all honesty.

To be honest, I was thinking the same thing. Nobody really uses them anymore. But he asked, and has more than earned anything I can do to help him. mtabbert86 at g mail. He is going to (actually just arrived within the last week) to Phoenix. Anything you want to do or can do would be fantastic, my friend and I would be grateful.

okay let me contact you so we can go over his background a little so I can stand behind it, then I will hunt and see what is down there and who I know at lux level dealers. Mercedes/Audi level, or is he shooting for higher?

Jaguar/Land Rover, BMW or higher. Those are where most of his experience lie.
